Biography

Biography

"You're going to rattle the stars, you are."

A Brief Synopsis

Hi there! My name is Ana González. I am a recent college graduate from the University of Georgia. I completed two bachelor's degrees in English and Entertainment and Media Studies (EMST) as well as a minor in French. I come from a Venezuelan family and grew up learning Spanish while I learned English.

My main passion is creative writing but I am hoping to apply that to the silver screen and other forms of media such as video games and music videos. As a member of the Hispanic/Latinx community here in the States, I am aware of the lack of representation of not only people sharing my culture but also that of other minority groups. While the entertainment industry is better than it was before, I firmly believe that more can be done to show characters of different ethnicities, sexual orientations, and physical ability.

I hope to one day become an established screenwriter in Los Angeles where I can develop moving stories for production companies. I wish to help build worlds for others to enjoy while also championing the inclusion of people rarely seen

in entertainment media.

Competition Writing

After graduation, I decided to practice my screenwriting and submit my work to festivals. "Sunset Sepulchre" is an original television pilot script that I wrote in October. I mixed drama with hints of comedy and weaved my love for the macabre into a story about self-discovery. It was very exciting to take an idea I had back in high school and finally create the first episode for this series. I look forward to hearing back from the festivals I submitted to and hearing professional feedback on my narrative style.

"Sunset Sepulchre" Televison Pilot Script

For this course, students were assigned to develop a pilot script for a multi-season series in groups of two. From the creation of loglines to the editing of the final product, my classmates and I succeeded in creating scripts for our respective stories. With the help of my friend, "Buyer's Remorse" was created. This pilot revolves around Tracy Crenshaw, who is trying to reclaim her crown as Atlanta's top real-estate agent after both her children enter school. However, due to her husband's gambling addiction, Tracy must delve into illegal activities to keep both her reputation and her family afloat.

"Buyer's Remorse" was submitted into the Student Scriptwriting Competition at the 2021 BEA Festival of Media Arts. Taylor and I were awarded 1st Place in the Original Television Series Pilot and then later earned the Best of Festival Student Scriptwriting Award at the King Foundation Best of Festival Awards. This has been my greatest accomplishment yet in my screenwriting career. Please feel free the attached links to view both "Buyer's Remorse" as well as BEA's press release.

Spring 2020

Course: Screenwriting (Film)

In my first official screenwriting class, students were required to develop a plot for a feature film and write the first act of their movie. Here are the first 30 pages of my project titled "Her Lovelies." I took inspiration from comic book superheroes, but also integrated real-life issues such as alienation, social anxiety, and grief. This story takes superpowers and assigns them to two individuals whose respective problems make them, ultimately, human.

Spring 2018

Course: Writing for Digital Media

In Writing for Digital Media, my class was tasked to come up with a six-episode web-series. My two teammates and I created All-Nighter, a story about a newly-hired security guard trying to hide her job from her parents. The series is meant to be a comedy but includes moments of drama. To the right is the third of the series that I worked on.

Academic Essays

This class discussed artistic media created by Native Americans and how representation functioned in these forms. For my research paper, I had to choose an Indigenous art form and examine its history using concepts learned in this course.

ENGL 3410: Research Paper

Course: Literature and Media
Course: Medieval Literature

This course centered on popular poetic works from the medieval time period. Our class read works such as "Troilus and Criseyde" as well as smaller pieces to discuss their plots and the literary tools their author's used. My final paper revolved around "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and how pieces of clothing symbolized the faith of the protagonist.

ENGL 4230:

Final Paper

Course: Novel after 1900

Another English course focusing on Native American works. While this class solely focused on books and essays, our class was challenged to think outside the box and connect the subject matter of these works to the author's background and historical events. Attached is my final paper for this course in which I discuss how the novella Red Earth used elements of the classical realist novel to strengthen his message of healing.

ENGL 4866:

Final Paper

By analyzing various fairy tales by subject matter, out class was able to track popular themes and social commentary by region and time period. We also reviewed modern takes on these classic stories to see how today's author's worked with the original narrative. Attached is my final paper, which I wrote on the "Donkeyskin" tale.

ENGL 3610:

Final Paper

Course: Introduction to Fiction
Course: Shakespeare and Media

This class focused on examining how Shakespeare's works have been translated across different forms of media. From theatre dioramas to Bollywood remakes, students had to become active viewers while observing various forms of media. For my first essay, I conducted research on a video cassette of Strange Brew, a 1983 Canadian film based on Hamlet.

ENGL 4332:

First Paper

Course: Fantasy Literature

As an avid fan of fantasy fiction since childhood, I was very excited to take this course. In this class, we analyzed four different genres of works, tracking patterns and participating in class discussions about what we've read. For my final paper, I chose to write about animal imagery and how it is used to communicate different ideas in two  literary works.

ENGL 4876/4897:

Final Paper

Course: Grady LA - Industry

To say 2020 derailed many people's plans is an understatement. Due to the pandemic, my domestic study in Los Angeles was cancelled. However, those admitted into the program were still allowed the change to take our class online, an opportunity that I took. Learning how the entertainment industry was changing in real time was fascinating. For my final paper, I discussed how the world of advertising had been changed by COVID-19.

ENGL 4050e:

Final Paper

Course: Representation in Media

One of my favorite EMST courses, and one of my favorite college classes overall, Representation in Media centered on various minority populations and their portrayal in film and television over time. We viewed striking documentaries, popular streaming series, and movies made by POC filmmakers. For my final paper, I chose to investigate how the monster from The Shape of Water was used to highlight the plights of the protagonist and her two friends, all of whom were members of underrepresented communities both in the time period the film takes place and in modern times.

Creative Writing

For my Advanced Creative Writing class, my teacher chose to focus on zoonotic diseases as our course subject. In the following short story, I wrote a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a "werewolf" illness. The plot follows two protagonists who've both contracted the sickness and have their respective experiences with the pandemic while also providing insight into how the disease began in the first place.

Banebloods

This short story, also written during my Advanced Creative Writing class, centers on characters I created for a sci-fi series. I took this opportunity to flesh out the backstory of one of the main characters of my saga, a woman who was once heiress to an empire and left it all behind to do what was right. I delved into her psychology and how a devasting event, such as the destruction of a city, could place her on the path she takes in the future.

Relinquish

Poetry isn't my strong suit. While my Introduction to Creative Writing made that apparent, I still decided to push myself out of my comfort zone, both writing and content-wise. I decided to be vulnerable and tell stories from my life that impacted me. "Plethora Poems" is a dedication to three close friends who taught me life lessons and helped me come into my own. By sourcing past memories, I used poetic techniques to bring my tributes to the page.
